What is Risk-free rate and market risk premium?

The risk-free rate is the return on an investment considered free of default risk; the market risk premium is the additional return investors expect for equity market risk.

In valuations the risk-free rate is usually taken from long-term government bond yields in the valuation currency; consistent use of currency matters in lira and foreign currency valuations. A country risk premium may be added separately.
